2025 Renaissance

The covid started from 2020 and ended in 2023 (Northwestern, 2025); it seems like it was only yesterday when we were wearing face mask in the public, social distancing to experiencing social and technological disruptions to accommodate our abrupt livelihood.

All those sudden changes, we handled it like a pro or was it forced? Forced to a point where we feel the “humaneness” that we were so accustomed to have changed drastically and afterwards we began to yearn more as though we are asking for a 2nd coming of renaissance.

Concept

“The Renaissance was one of Europe’s most significant historical periods which occurred between the 15th and 17th century (History Hit, 2021)

From new to rebirth of ideas – this is a paradigm shift which caught the attention of the many and paved the way for a modern world (Livescience, 2022).

It happened around 425 years ago, and it would not be a surprise if occurs again; a 2025 renaissance.

The renaissance encouraged many commentators and critics; especially to some of the key ideas the likes of Classicism, Humanism, and Individualism. For relevancy let’s use something that is more recent from 1900 – 2010.

Use Cases

Classicism

Vinyls, VHS, CDs, DVDs – “Cassette Tapes”; we are all familiar with these products. Vinyls have made a comeback at an astonishing rate and there were some artists who had released their new albums in a Cassette tape format – Taylor Swift, Billie, Eilish, Ed Sheeran to name a few.

Humanism

As a Gen Y, we are familiar with clubbing from dusk till dawn to carrying hangovers to 9am morning office meetings. Clubbing at a certain entertainment district on Friday and Saturday evening were a thing. Fast forward to 2025; day clubbing with DJs in the morning, hot coffee and bagel is the mainstream now. Humans are social animals – after extended period of social distancing, people would tend to seek more face-to-face interactions. A lot of the businesses have deployed call-center bots, etc.; notice how many people have commented they wanted to talk to an actual staff and not robots. Are you one of them?

Individualism

Metaphorically, individuals who have taken a “stance” for their beliefs have made time for their ideology. This flows into the idea of a niche experience, whether it is fashion to even the dining industry. For example, businesses such as Refinement (Thailand) and Decorum (Thailand) are male tailoring services that emphasizes vintage fashion.

My Spectant

The 2025 Renaissance brought back a lot of pasts to the present: the re-introduction of vinyl and the eternal vintage fashions. But notice how the “human” behavior has somewhat circumvented back to the renaissance period. The emphasis of LGBTQ+, the introduction of AI and now the bullish trend on gold investments (traditional and digital).

Let’s apply the concept to today’s businesses; which industry would this approach be applicable to?

Restaurant

Imagine if certain restaurant (not fine-dining) uses a “Nostalgia” dining experience to curate a unique ambience that is above the normal but below a fine-dining experience. Wardrobe attire is above casual but not formal; that would be something to talk about. This would also refer to how the food is displayed and served.

Fashion

The 90’s fashion seems to be making a comeback on today’s youth wardrobe. What if we spearhead deeper into the concept of courtship and romance? What if fashion brands not only just provides “clothing” but “courtship” and “dating etiquettes”? With the today’s generation who focuses on experiences, this could position a clothing brand more than just a fabric business.

Imagine that today, businesses are competing for unique selling points and attention. Imagine if they bring back and apply the “renaissance” approach to their businesses, would not that be unique in its own way? But that’s My Spectant.
